On TV with EditieNL

Why is the word GRATIS (for free) one of the most googled words in the Netherlands? Alette Vonk had a chance to explain it shortly on Dutch television in the program Editie NL on RTL 4. In comparison to other countries, the people in the Netherlands are relatively impulsive: we are allowed to enjoy life and follow our impulses when we find something which is cheap or free: we are even searching for it! On top, it is part of a somewhat modest culture, the Dutch are proud of it, when they find something cheap or for free. Status is generally less important than in other countries and we don’t like it when people show off with expensive things. “I really like the blouse you are wearing!” – “Thank you, I found it for just two Euro on the market!”
